The Mae Young Classic tournament is coming together more and more every single day. WWE has been announcing competitors for the new show every few days, and now we know at least two more. At the recent set of NXT tapings from this past Friday, WWE held a brief round of qualifying matches for the show. Each match saw two new competitors square off against each other. In the end, we got two new Mae Young tournament participants out of it. The first match saw NXT’s Aliyah face off against Performance Center standout Bianca BelAir (formerly Bianca Blair). Bianca defeated Aliyah to gain a spot in the upcoming tournament.
The next match was between Jayme Hachey and Vanessa Borne. Hachey is an independent wrestler who usually goes by the ring name Jayme Jameson. She has competed for Shine Wrestling since 2012, and she was previously married to rumored future NXT star Gunner. Borne’s real name is Danielle Kamela. She has been working in the WWE Performance Center since April 2016, and she trained with former WWE star Gangrel and Rikishi before she was signed. Borne was victorious in the match, and she will join Tessa Blanchard, Toni Storm, Princesa Sugehit, Lacey Evans, Sarah Logan, Abbey Laith, Alpha Female, Taynara Conti, Kavita Devi, and now Bianca BelAir as confirmed participants for the tournament.
Speaking of the recent round of NXT tapings, it wasn’t just a night where we saw the debut of some new women’s wrestlers. It had been rumored earlier in the day that former Ring of Honor wrestler Bobby Fish had been spotted at Full Sail University before the tapings. After some speculation over whether he would be used or not, those in attendance confirmed that the former tag team champion did work the show. Fish made his NXT debut this past Friday night in a match wherein he was defeated by Aleister Black. No word on if he is signed by the company yet, but if he isn’t, he probably will be in just a matter of time. Fish’s debut will probably either air next week, or in two weeks on the 400th edition of NXT.
