Wallabies and Brumbies halfback Joe Powell is sticking around until at least 2020, signing a new deal this week.

Powell, who burst into the Wallabies frame with a surprise June Series inclusion in 2016, has developed into one of Australia’s highest-rated halfbacks.

The 24-year-old played his fourth Wallabies Test this June Series, after three outings in 2017.

Powell said next year’s World Cup was a major focus for him, as well as some success with the Brumbies.

“I’m really excited for what we’re building at the Brumbies but also the Wallabies and I’m really enjoying being part of that,” he said.

“The World Cup is a big target of mine for next year but right now I’m just focused on playing the best possible footy for the Brumbies and hopefully challenge for the Super Rugby title again.”

The former tradie was signed as injury cover for the Brumbies, replacing Nic White, and impressed coach Stephen Larkham enough to earn a full-time contract.
