A lot of people are ready to say farewell to 2017, as it was a pretty rough year. There were natural disasters, political turmoil, celebrity breakups, and much more we won’t get into, but Barack Obama is here to remind you that a lot of good things happened in 2017, too.

The former President took to Twitter yesterday to share some of the best heart-warming news stories that took place over the past year.

“As we count down to the new year, we get to reflect and prepare for what’s ahead,” Obama wrote on social media. “For all the bad news that seemed to dominate our collective consciousness, there are countless stories from this year that remind us what’s best about America.”

His round-up of uplifting news stories included everything from a wedding planner who organized a volunteer opportunity for Hurricane Harvey relief to a 5th grader who’s helping Chicago’s homeless.

Obama ended his Twitter thread with a reminder that our little actions can make a difference: “All across America people chose to get involved, get engaged and stand up. Each of us can make a difference, and all of us ought to try. So go keep changing the world in 2018.”

We definitely needed this inspiring message as we close out 2017—and it goes without saying that Twitter loved it, too!
